'This edition is an example of good communication. I hope that the obvious good sense of the contributions will lead to increased understanding of the need to support victims as well as treat offenders. I have no doubt that such support will result in improved morale amongst practitioners. Better morale will lead to better service provision. If this includes better understanding of the psychological impact of crime on its many and varied victims, that could have an impact on crime itself.'
Sir David Ramsbotham GCB CBE, former Chief Inspector of Prisons, in his introduction to this edition.
