Safeguarding: Understanding and responding to child sexual abuse and exploitation 8 September 2017 Safeguarding – understanding and responding to child sexual abuse and exploitation in psychological settings. This workshop will provide in depth knowledge of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation to all those working with children and young people from 0-25 years. All professionals are required to have up to date safeguarding training. This workshop provides an advanced level of understanding of safeguarding, child protection, intelligence gathering, reporting and supporting children and young people who have experienced child sexual abuse and exploitation. With 1 in 4 children experiencing sexual abuse by the age of 12 in the UK (NSPCC, 2012), many adults and children that are seen in a psychological setting will have a history of abuse. This workshop will add context to the trauma behaviours, coping mechanisms and grooming processes that children and young people experience after their abuse or exploitation and will ensure all professionals know how to respond to disclosure, allegations and requests from police or CPS for documentation.
